Summary: Stairs & Pathways by Whispering Hills Garden & Landscape Design Center Whispering Hills Garden & Landscape Design Center proudly completed the 'Stairs & Pathways' , which is found in the beautiful landscape of Barrington Hills, Illinois, and embodied the harmony of function and landscape beauty. The included the design of a series of beautiful stone pathways and steps that traversed the property. The pathways and steps provided accessible entry points to various areas on the property as the natural views of the gardens become a part of the experience. To enhance the flow of the design we chose an array of natural stone that was high quality and locally sourced. Each material was both durable and visually pleasing. The pathways were intricately designed to include an assortment of bluestone and flagstone set in random patterns as a way to create a natural landscape connection and provide safe and stable walking surfaces. Uneven grade issues at the site developed into the need to re-contour both pathways and steps to engage in a balanced and appealing pathway contour. The included adequate lighting to the pathways to give safety while transitioning through the gardens at dusk and potentially into the evening. Along the pathway edges we included where appropriate one or two layers of plantings that were native to the site to increase the visual aesthetics and it provided additional shelter for small mammals and insects. The transformation of the landscape from six weeks prior to the finish of the was amazing. The clients were beyond thrilled with the seamless connection of layers of stairs and pathways between outdoor living space and the gardens, which now becomes a functional transit corridor and yet is an additional attractive element of the garden. This is representative of the quality workmanship, thoughtful detail, and tangible growth of our service to improve the landscape beauty of our clients landscapes throughout the greater Algonquin area and beyond.
