The pro initially began with the objective to augment the client's outdoor space with natural basalt columns; in addition to their aesthetic beauty, the durability of a basalt column offers a different style and material for an outdoor space. We then had to select the right basalt stone for the ; basalt stone is a reliable composition because of its rich texture and various shades and colors; our natural stone vendor had an impressive selection of quality basalt stone for various value. One challenge we faced was to coordinate the design of the columns into the existing landscape in a flow of context or movement to the surrounding landscape. The expert crew was tested into coordinating an impressive layout that relies on the heft of the basalt columns, but flows naturally into the adjacent hosting plants. We wanted to create interest without overpowering the beauty of the natural surroundings. In addition to the basalt columns, we developed the softscape or companion landscaping around the columns with the inclusion of perennials with bright colors and ornamental grasses that provided contrast to the more rugged basalt stone columns. The various selections that complemented the stone columns provided natural contrast and enhanced the liveliness of particular modular features, while attracting pollination and other wildlife. The final outcome was stunning. The basalt columns ultimately stand tall and act as a statement for not only the creative work of nature, but also a beautiful backdrop for the garden, while providing a relaxing zone for the homeowners as well.
