Summary: Resolution of Drainage Issue At Dr. Dan's Landscaping & Architectural Design, we recognize how important proper drainage is to a healthy, flourishing landscape. Recently, we have completed a tricky in Virginia Beach, where a homeowner was experiencing standing water in the yard following periods of heavy rain. This generated an unsightly yard that caused damage to the plants. To address the drainage issue, we performed a multi-faceted site analysis and identified primary areas of standing water that were present 1 day after heavy rainfalls. We then devised a custom design that included installing a French drain system in the areas of the yard impacted by standing water to reroute excess water away from the foundation and garden beds. We selected and utilized high-quality components based on our experience, incorporating perforated piping and gravel that allowed for replenishment of water and optimum landscaping functionality for improved longevity. In addition, we added a new series of dry creek beds to assist with channeling runoff away from the home while creating a natural aesthetic that was compatible with the style of the existing landscape. While the presented innumerable challenges like compacted soils and various elevations, our knowledge and expertise allowed us to mitigate these issues effectively. Our design success yielded tremendous results! The homeowner walked out to the yard seeing fully blossomed plant life that was lush and green without the threat of water damage. The client expressed complete satisfaction with the resolution of the drainage problem and the seamless way it integrated with their garden design style. We had solved the problem with the drainage, while enhancing the overall beauty and functionality of the outdoor space.
