About This Project

Hillside Xeriscape Terracing We are excited to share 'Hillside Xeriscape Terracing' with you all here at Blissful Gardens & Green Dragon Design, a wonderful trans-formative landscape nestled in the hills of West Lake Hills. The showcases our approach to sustainable gardening, where we preserve the natural beauty of our surrounding landscape while working with the challenges of a sloped site. We constructed a series of terraced beds from locally-sourced stone with environmentally-friendly landscaping materials to create beautiful landscapes that are both practical. Drought resistant native plant species were planted on each terrace, such as succulents, ornamental grasses, and flowering perennials, creating colourful displays throughout the year and reducing water usage. The steep slope presented the most formidable challenges we faced: soil erosion and moisture content control. To prevent this, we introduced an extensive drainage plan and various boulder placement to beautify and offer reinforcement and support. This has resulted in a stunning xeriscape that integrates into the adjacent context while offering the client a low maintenance landscape with minimal irrigation. The terracing slows down the water flow and prevents soil erosion and makes microenvironments with different humidity levels that are needed for the biodiversity. Our customers were pleased with the final result, as they loved how we were able to blend beauty with sustainability effortlessly.
