About This Project

Beachside by Scot Eckley, Inc. Located on the beautiful Pacific Northwest coast, the 'Beachside' by Scot Eckley, Inc. is a beautiful example of coastal elegance meeting sustainable design. We took a large beachfront lot and created a relaxed, beautiful space that merges new and existing contexts in nature. Key features include an expansive deck created with sustainably harvested cedar that creates a perfect view of sunset over the ocean. We chose a mixture of native plantings with selections such as ornamental grasses and flowering shrubs that thrive in the coastal climate and use less water. The final feature is an undulating pathway with permeable pavers that allows rainwater to naturally filter into the ground rather than running off! One challenge was the slope of the site and sandy soils. Our landscape architects figured out how to engineer terraced gardens that utilized natural boulders. The terracing stabilized the slope while simultaneously creating these beautiful layers of green. The end effect after our work included having multiple spaces for plants and outdoor seating on each of the tiers so functional and aesthetic benefits were realized. In the end, we received compliments from our clients who now have a peaceful retreat and an environment where they can spend time with the sounds of the ocean in the background. With great attention to detail and quality craftsmanship, the landscape we created for them was a reflection of the unique beauty of the Pacific Northwest which made the property more valuable and potentially livable. The Beachside represents an example where Scot Eckley, Inc. has worked to create outdoor spaces that connect the beauty of nature with the beauty of our customers’ needs.
