Shade by Earth Songs Gardening Situated in the middle of some of Colorado's incredible landscapes, Earth Songs Gardening just finished up the 'Shade' , which redefined an underutilized backyard into an oasis of serenity and beauty. Serving the beautiful locations of Avon, Beaver Creek, Edwards, Minturn, Red Cliff, Vail, Wolcott, Arrowhead, Bachelor Gulch, Mountain Star, Red Sky, and Singletree, we were excited to start the creating a backyard that would inspire calmness away from the sun and encourage the natural beauty of the site. We began the by meeting with the clients and creating a plan according to the client's wish list for a shaded retreat where they could relax and entertain guests. The landscape architects at Earth Songs selected a variety of native trees, including Aspens and Colorado Blue Spruces, which offered a great deal of shade while supporting the ecology of the space. In addition to the tree massing, we created their dream custom stone patio with locally sourced flagstone for a space to sit and dine outdoors without the sun beating down on them. One of the biggest considerations was the topography of the site. The slope posed unique challenges, specifically in dealing with proper drainage and a steep slope. Our experienced and talented crew utilized terracing techniques utilizing the natural boulders on site to create visually appealing but effective retaining walls for drainage and stability. Everyone involved took pride in the final design of the hardscaping. Permeable pavers were installed for the pathways, allowing the rainwater to recharge the garden, while helping restore sustainability of the . By the end of Phase 1 of the , we were very excited the final product. The design included a lush shaded oasis, with perennial flower beds that run the perimeters of the yard blooming at different times of the year, attracting the local wildlife to the backyard, and enhancing biodiversity. These groupings of hardscaping and soft landscaping worked seamlessly together for our clients' design. Their private retreat came together beautifully which was heartwarming to see for us, especially since they had spent so long waiting to have their dream yard.
