All of our sod comes from grass that we specifically grow in our fields; this ensures that you are getting the freshest and highest quality sod available in the local Tampa climate. Watering is essential for your sod to get established after it's laid. Here at Council Growers Sod Farm we like to see your sod thoroughly watered immediately after laying in order for the sod to settle in to the soil. Sod should be watered daily for the first few weeks for 15 - 30 min depending on weather. You might need to extend the watering time during seasons where it tends to be hotter and drier. Start watering every 2 weeks and then, adjust to 3 times a week. Keep an eye on the sod and make the earth moist (not soggy) for proper root establishment. We're also happy to give you watering recommendations based on what kind of sod you have.
Council Growers Sod Farm is a sod installation and sales business but we are glad to share our expertise with you for future lawn care. We do not provide full lawn care services but our staff can provide in-depth instructions on how to maintain your newly laid sod. This contains details on watering, mowing, fertilization, and pest management schedules. Taking care of your turf after your installation is imperative to long-lasting and full-looking grass. After installation, we are happy to answer any questions a homeowner may have, because we want you to be happy, and we want your lawn to be healthy.

Prices above are for a clean sod installation which requires proper preparation of your yard. At Council Growers Sod Farm we suggest the following:Remove existing grass, weeds and debris from a small area where you want to plant your new sod. A shovel, rake, or sod cutter works well for this. Next, you will need to grade the soil to facilitate proper drainage and to create a level surface for the new sod. Soil testing, when required, speaks of what needs to be added to the soil for best growth. Water the soil a day or two prior to installation, such that it is moist, but not muddy. Their specific recommendations vary based on the unique characteristics of your yard, but our team can give you detailed guidance to ensure the best outcome.
For the Apollo Beach area and surrounding communities, sod is best installed during the warm season and applied from late spring until early fall months. These are when the grass varieties we sell, like St. Augustine and Bermuda all grow and root best. But we also want homeowners to be mindful of the weather too; sod can actually still be laid down in cooler parts of the year, like early spring or fall, but only if the temperatures are mild. Our staff here at Council Growers Sod Farm can help you assess when you should lay the sod depending on the type of sod you have chosen, and help you determine the best weather conditions for sod to establish itself and grow.
The time it takes to add sod at Council Growers Sod Farm can vary based on numerous factors: the size of the area that you have to sod, the sod type ordered, and if any other services are needed to assist meet your sod needs (for instance soil preparation or grading). As we value transparency regarding the pricing mechanism, we recommend our potential customers reach out for a personalized estimate. One of our staff members will review your specific project, and outline a detailed pricing quote that covers all factors. Our services might not be the cheapest sod in town, but we work hard to offer you a fair price with sod and service you can be proud of. Investing in a new lawn is a big decision and we want to help you choose the one that is right for you. Remember that
