About Garden Vignettes

Garden Vignettes is a Landscape Design professional based in South Shore Massachusetts, MA, serving Plymouth, South Duxbury, Hingham, Cohasset, Duxbury, Marshfield.

For the last twenty plus years, I have created gardens for clients on the South Shore. I have completed courses at Radcliffe College, Arnold Arboretum, New England Wildflower Society and Mass Horticultural Society at Elm Bank. Most recently, I worked with the Natural Heritage/MA Fish and Wildlife to establish a native plant wildflower field. Garden Vignettes – I started this blog when I had so many visitors coming to see the garden I created in front of my home. Since then word-of-mouth and referrals have given my work to me. My success came from careful site analysis, including consideration of the current built environment of the property (the house, and on adjacent properties) as well as light and wind patterns, my depth of knowledge of horticulture, and my obsessive attention to detail. At the same page, they have come to appreciate my gardens for being not just pretty, but durable and ageless, as I put significant planning into appropriate plant material, and I design for the future to avoid gardens "outgrowing" their surroundings. I look for simplicity, classicism and proportion in designs. You can appeal to any budget and yet can always be dressed up more or less, depending on the client's vision. I want to spread the love of gardens and gardening to as many people as I can. I want to raise garden design above the everyday — like Julia Child did (and, dare I say, did not to) for cooking in this country. Same as her, I was also heavily inspired by the Parisian days and months I spent there, and I want to see a better design level implemented here as well; I believe in sustainable techniques using organic compost and being mindful of the native landscape and in some cases, "micro-climates" which exist in every space.
