La Canada Home by Sydney Baumgartner 3 The La Canada Home by Eye of the Day is a perfect example of a great landscape job taking a typical home yard and turning it into a magical escape. Nestled in the beautiful setting of Laguna Beach, this was a collab between designer Sydney Baumgartner and our team, serving the communities of Aliso Viejo, Dana Point and beyond! The design is composed of a balance of California native plants and sustainable hardscape materials. We used beautiful pathways of high quality flagstone laid out in a way that tells the natural flow of the land, and custom boulder retaining walls filled with locally found capital boulders acting as practical and ornamental forms. A beautiful water feature incorporated encourages nature, bringing the local eco-system to your garden, adding serenity and delight. This provided several challenges but one of the biggest was a slope across the site that meant achieving a balanced layout, drawing and executing the solution was very time consuming. We worked around this as a group by building tiered garden beds so that we would have the best possible drainage and growth for the plants. This intuitive design not only solved the slope problem but also separated the space into different areas for relaxation, planting and entertaining. The end result is a stunning outdoor sanctuary that excites the clients, and suits the architectural beauty of the home. And that includes lush greenery, colorful flowerbeds, and well-placed lighting that makes it a comfortable spot for family gatherings or a peaceful evening at home.
