Notes: Cynthia Burns Landscape Design Atlantic Beach, FL Cynthia Burns Landscape Design gorgeous dense landscape for a modest coastal property in the serene beach community of Atlantic Beach, FL The complexity lay in the need for a garden space which felt in harmony with the stunning natural beauty which surrounded it and one that aligned with the client's aspiration for a low-maintenance, visually interesting landscape design. The planting plan displayed a variety of native plants along the beach: sea oats, beach daisies, and ferns, which beautified the beach while also supporting local ecology. Products such as reclaimed wood for the raised garden beds and permeable pavers for the pathways were selected to reduce environmental impact, while the items themselves are durable enough to withstand the coastal weather elements. One of the most significant obstacles experienced was the sandy soil that is commonly present in the location. We developed soil amendments and irrigation techniques to make the plants perfectly at home in such rugged conditions. Another element that the design included was an awe-inspiring water feature. It was a natural rock fountain that not only added a gentle sound but also invited local flora and fauna, giving a boost to the ecological elevation around. The end result was still this beautiful landscape that was both functional and spectacular. The seamless transition from indoor to outdoor living helped make the client extremely happy with a fire pit area surrounded by native grasses and flowering shrubs providing year-round color. Not only did this enhance the curb appeal of the property, but it also provided the family with a tranquil getaway right in their own backyard, a perfect example of open air design and quality craftsmanship.
