· Cape Andover Goes Drought Tolerant · With the completion of the 'Cape Andover Goes Drought Tolerant' by Camille Beehler Landscape Design, we showed just how beautifully landscape aesthetics and sustainable design practices can go in harmony. As we continue through one of our many active service areas, we highlight this beautiful conversion of a traditional garden in Southern California into a fully functioning, drought-friendly garden. Unique challenges included a site with very dense soil packing and existing drip irrigation systems that were poorly working. Our team took a carefull assessment of the site and then decided on a total strip of eact area with no remain of the previous plants, addition of organic soil amendments for better drainage and moisture retaining. The landscape showcases a selection of indigenous and drought-tolerant plants, including, but not limited to, laves, succulents, and ornamental grasses, each selected for drought-tolerance. These plants also attract local wildlife and provide a splash of color all year round. We used quality stuff like permeable pavers for walkways that help manage water while enhancing the modern feel of the design. Beyond aesthetics, we incorporated a dry creek bed that helps divert rainwater run-off into underground piping. In the end, the result is a beautiful garden that caters to the client's wishes for an eco-friendly garden combined with great curb appeal. The client was over the moon with the end result and is now enjoying a beautiful, functional, and sustainable landscape.
