Executed by Kinghorn Gardens in the core of Omaha, the 'Colorful Eclectic Garden' is a testament to our approach for finessing outdoor spaces into lively green escapes. We also merge creativity with practicality, as does the garden below that serves the communities of Bellevue, Bennington, Boys Town, Carter Lake, Chalco, Council Bluffs, La Vista, Millard, Papillion, Ralston, and Elkhorn. In this case the was a little different in the sense that the client wanted the landscape to reflect their eclectic taste while providing for low maintenance. We started with a detailed site analysis, looking at the existing topography and sun paths. The colorful garden is a "living mosaic" of native perennials, annuals and ornamental grasses in a changing tableau of color, year-round. The raised garden beds are built from reclaimed wood and the pathways are made of natural stone that leads you to various exploration points; all sustainably sourced materials. Art is reflected in the artistic features, from a water fountain designed to creatively integrate into the landscape, to sculptures tucked away throughout. Soil ranged in condition from almost gravelly sand to crusty clay, and this ended up being one of the most tricky parts of the entire process. Recognizing the challenge presented by the two differed type of planting areas, our adept landscape architects formulated a multi-faceted soil enhancement and amendment plan to create the ideal growing environment for each plant. Second, we made sure a drip irrigation system was functional to conserve water and irrigate our garden effectively. The end product is a stunning patchwork of colors and textures that not only makes the lives of the homeowners that much brighter, but also the neighborhood around them.
