Key by Old World Brick Paving Located in the Chicagoland, Key by Old World Brick Paving is a great example of the balance of art and functionality when it comes to landscapes. Old World Brick Paving provides landscaping services to families in suburban communities from Addison to Wilmette, and we were proud to be part of the transformation of a suburban home into a beautiful outdoor escape. At the center of the was the installation of a designed brick paver patio. This patio consisted of quality brick pavers chosen for their durability and intended to complement the home style. In choosing the brick, we opted to use earth-toned pavers that contributed exceptional beauty and longevity. To plant the surrounding area, we decided to use Native Illinois plants that contributed color and texture to multiple seasons of blooming, while requiring little maintenance. One of the most challenging aspects of the work was the unevenness of the property, making the installation of a leveled patio difficult. However, our team of skilled landscape professionals was able to create elevation by using a variety of smart grading techniques. We also incorporated elevations of gravel with an extensive drainage component to move and manage water while lowering the risk of future erosion of the surrounding property. Our attention to the slope and function of the drainage measures was, ultimately, sustainable and worked well to resolve the slope concerns. To expand on the landscape and add beauty, a few natural stone retaining walls were built to create structure in the design. The walls are functioning while adding visual interest to the area by to hold back soil to create tiered planting areas. The tiered planting areas allowed the homeowner to use a variety of color from native vegetation in bloom to draw in pollinators, while providing a more eco-friendly plant palette for the outdoor environment. The end result provided a beautifully designed destination that exceeded the homeowner's expectations. The patio was ideal for entertaining and family gatherings, while the surrounding landscape invited peace and nature in to be enjoyed. The client expressed delight with the design cohesion of features and how the work executed was done with care.
