Contemporary Custom Home in Los Altos Hills Randy Thueme Design Inc. - Landscape Architecture is pleased to document our 'Contemporary Custom Home in Los Altos Hills' where an exemplary outdoor living space was created as a showcase for modern landscape architecture. Set in the highly desirable Los Altos Hills, the works with the natural topography to create an outdoor living area that celebrates the home’s contemporary architecture. The design took advantage of combining drought tolerant and native California plant materials in a fashion that is both sustainable and provides year-round color. Stone pathways composed of basalt sourced locally were constructed to weave through the lush gardens and strengthen the connection between inside and outside living space. An infinity pool was purposely designed to be the focal point of the back-yard, appearing to reflect the sky, promoting tranquility, while the wooden deck and tables and chairs, built for entertaining, are gently tucked away. Among the many challenges that we faced on this was the nature of the site being somewhat sloping. Our team simplified the rugged terrain with design by engineering a series of terraces that aided in access and visual interest in the landscape. The terraces provided diversity in planting levels, texture and color - changing seasonally. The end result is a beautiful landscape that is simple to care for, functional and truly beautiful. The clients absolutely loved it, along with living with the experience of the scenery provided by the home and yard as a whole. The materials combined, blended and highlighted the art of landscape architecture from beginning to end. The ultimate outcome of this was enhanced value to the property and the quality of life for the owners as they rediscovered a little oasis in the hills of Los Altos.
