Mediterranean Escape by Nick Martin Landscape Architect Inc. Situated in the charming hills of Rancho Santa Fe, the 'Mediterranean Escape' is a true reflection of the work of Nick Martin Landscape Architect Inc. This beautiful space embraces Mediterranean ideals and landscaping with the famed SoCal beauty, creating a relaxing retreat for the homeowners. The included exceptional soft and hardscape elements such as bougainvillea, lavender, and olive trees to remind guests of the beautiful coasts of the Mediterranean. Stone pathways, made with locally sourced flagstone, wind through the area to create movement while leading guests to the durable seating areas that were enhanced with hand-painted ceramic tiles. One of the main challenges was managing drainage on the sloped site while maintaining some visual relief. The team utilized terracing techniques with multi-level garden beds, which not only enhanced drainage, but created a sense of depth and dimension within the landscape. This also allowed the designers to include a calm water feature, which was a fountain, to create a focal point within the design as well as a relaxing background sound. A primary purpose of the outdoor living space was entertaining. The rustic pergola was built using reclaimed wood and provides shade and a rustic feel to the space. The addition of the built-in grill and fire pit create a place for friends and families to gather under the night sky, allowing them to add some ambiance and coziness. The space utilized long-lasting and durable materials and finishes to ensure the beauty remains for years to follow. Upon completion, the 'Mediterranean Escape' was received beyond the client's satisfaction of transforming their outdoor living into a outdoor luxurious experience.
