Escondido Backyard Retreat The 'Escondido Backyard Retreat,' completed by Nick Martin Landscape Architect Inc., is a wonderful transformation and another example of our quality approach to landscape design and innovation. Located in beautiful Escondido, the incorporates the aesthetics of nature and modern living to create a quiet escape for the clients. This retreat incorporates a well thought-out layout that includes multi-tiered garden beds filled with native drought resistant plant materials, acting sustainably and with low water use. A meandering stone walkway built from local flagstone leads visitors through the dense natural landscape, while task and strategic LED lighting draws out every detail of the plant materials, while providing ambiance for nighttime entertaining. A focal point to the design was addressing the sloped landscape of the backyard. Our team was able to design several retaining walls built out of natural stone to act as a structural integrity for the sloped areas and enhance the aesthetic of the space. Additionally, this created the amounts of space needed for distinct areas of lounging, entertaining, and playing, while catering to the needs of the family. The site includes a stunning water feature to provide sound and to attract indigenous wildlife. Additionally, comfortable sitting areas, constructed from weather resistant material, were placed near the water feature to give family and friends the opportunity to enjoy their yard year-round. After addressing the drainage issues and incorporating all of the layers into a cohesive design, the end result exceeded expectations. The Escondido Backyard Retreat is a thriving space that exemplifies the natural beauty of Southern California and creates a quiet space to escape to from the craziness of day to day life. All of the effort put into making a high quality product while also paying close attention to detail in creating the space is something the family can enjoy for years to come.
