Tucked away in a lively subdivision, this beautiful back yard was engineered to grow in low light, with a creative mix of shade plants and landscaping. From the beginning we faced irregular topography and with that a host of problematic tree roots which created issues in the planting design. We cleverly overcame these hurdles with a unique layering system, using great organic soil built in raised beds that give very good drainage and retain good nutrients. Mixing hostas, astilbes, ferns, and others means a lush green tapestry with the most spectacular assortment of foliage and color Quarry stone pathways wind their way through the garden, combining local materials to serve a dual purpose: utility and beauty. These pathways lead visitors through the green nature of this garden, completing the peacefulness the garden represents. Custom-built seating surfaces of salvaged timber beckon lounging and reflection among the trees and all of their majesty. Lighting was another important factor LED fixtures were placed in such a way that they did not interfere with the night-time ambience but still illuminated the pathways and provided of the botanic specimens in the dark. The end result is a stunning Shade Garden that fulfills the clients vision and then some! The space is a tranquil escape, encouraging rest and connection with nature and being a demonstration for sustainable landscaping techniques. Very pleased with the results, the customer praised the quality craftsmanship and artistic elements delivered during this , and happily welcomed the Shade Garden into their home.
