Choosing the Right Evergreen Shrubs for Your Garden At Prunin Arboriculture & Landscape, we recently wrapped up a , "Selecting the Best Evergreen Shrubs for Your Yard," where we had the opportunity to beautify residential landscapes throughout Southern California. Working with many different communities from Aliso Viejo to the Newport Coast, we carefully selected and designed beautiful evergreen shrubs, which were custom-made for their own unique environments. This process included working directly with our clients, having several conversations on what they liked aesthetically and functionally. Next we had to consider the soil conditions, light exposure, and weather patterns (including temperature changes) on the local beautiful coastline (from Laguna Beach to Rancho Santa Margarita) populations, so we could pick which varieties would work best. Our team picked some durable, attractive combinations of shrub options, including Boxwood, Juniper, and Holly, which would provide year-round greenery and minimal maintenance. One of the main challenges we faced, especially in the Foothill Ranch and El Toro areas, was being aware of the dealing with the slope of the terrain. The fact that these terrains were not level required some thought on how to plant, and we had planned to terrace the slopes along with retaining walls to create interest and provide soil retention/drainage. In the end, we presented our clients with a stunning selection of evergreen shrubs that not only beautified their yards but also created privacy and sanctuary for wildlife. The shrubs provide seasonal colour and are a fantastic habitat for birds; the tranquillity of nature and the aspereal beauty enhanced outdoor living space in even the most cumbersome of yard spaces (Lake Forest; Mission Viejo for instance) they could enjoy it all year round. Our clients were extremely happy with our quality of work and the quality of the plants we used. The shrubs we selected worked seamlessly with the existing landscape.
