About This Project

The Photographers Home Office project transformed an unused bedroom into a functional and stylish workspace, tailored specifically for a photography professional. Located in Atlanta, GA, this project began in 2015 with the objective of creating an inviting and efficient home office that reflects the owner's artistic sensibilities. The design process commenced with a fresh coat of soft gray paint on the walls, providing a neutral backdrop that enhances the space's natural light. The decision to remove the old carpet and expose the concrete floors not only added an industrial charm but also created a durable foundation for the office environment. An area rug was strategically placed to introduce warmth and comfort, making the space more inviting. The project took an interesting turn with the removal of mirrored sliding closet doors, replaced by elegant gray linen curtains featuring large grommets that soften the overall look. The interior of the closet was outfitted with adjustable plastic shelves, providing ample storage for photography equipment and office supplies, thus maximizing the utility of every square foot. Unique furnishings contributed to the eclectic vibe of the office; an industrial-style desk was discovered at a yard sale, while a beige couch sourced from a friend added a touch of relaxation to the workspace. A repurposed credenza, crafted from an existing table and complemented by a hutch from another desk, showcases the owner's creativity and resourcefulness. Artistic elements were thoughtfully incorporated, including a striking black and white poster of James Dean with a camera that was acquired online for a modest price. This piece was framed in a repurposed frame that originally housed a print of hunting hounds, marrying personal history with contemporary style. Additionally, two rusty pieces of corrugated tin roof found in a friend’s barn were used to add texture and character to the overall design. The final outcome is a harmonious blend of functionality and artistic expression, resulting in an inspiring home office that perfectly meets the needs of a photographer.
