Using a combination of warm textured bricks and natural stones, a grand entry was built that balanced elegance and rusticity. It was a focus not just because of looks but because then you knew the elements had no chance of ruining the threshold that stood there for years to come. We reviewed locally sourced stone with an intent to make it achieve better aesthetics while keeping the environmental impact low. This had its challenges as well - take the slope leading up to the entrance, for example. Landscape architects worked to develop a progressive, terraced solution that incorporated retaining walls utilizing matching stone to manage water runoff and provide stability. It not only solved the problem functionally but also gave the landscape some depth. The addition of a vibrant, native plantings along the path not only beautified the entrance, but also provided a much more attractive juxtaposition to the hardscape whilst benefiting local wildlife. A thoughtful planting scheme provides seasonal variety and sustainable low-maintenance plant material. The result is a stunning entrance that perfectly captures the client’s brief whilst still being in keeping with the natural surroundings and working to improve the property’s curb appeal. The outcome impressed our client so much that they said the entrance is now the first thing people see when they arrive home, andthe entrance they now expect coming to their front doorhas upgraded the whole presentation of their home.
