George Back Completed by Coastal Concepts Located in the quaint community of Allenhurst, George Back was the transformation of a benign backyard into a lively outdoor space. Coastal Concepts recognized the challenges that the nature of this presented, such as facing down a hill as well as mitigating existing drainage issues, and created a warm and welcoming exterior space that works with the land instead of over it, fitting harmoniously into the coastal environment. In his design of a native multi-tiered landscape, the use of native plants will assure sustainability and enhance the area’s natural beauty. A lively palette of herbaceous perennials, ornamental grasses and select shrubs provided seasonal drama. Natural stone, from local quarries, has been used for retaining walls and pathways, bringing durability and a sensibility appropriate for a coastal setting. The centerpiece of the space is a custom-built fire pit, perfect for gatherings with family, with the surrounding timber deck providing an ideal place to enjoy the views of the beautiful gardens and entertain. Lighting was used to emphasize significant pieces and allowed use later into the evening. The Coastal Concepts team dealt with challenges like runoff and landscape-to-architecture integration during the .
