The process started with a detailed design consultation, where we worked alongside the homeowners to envision a space that improved upon the natural landscape and incorporated elements that met the needs of their family. Some features of the Farmington included the installation of a beautiful stone patio that was built from local bluestone; the stone instantly fits into the surrounding area and is both incredibly durable and elegant in its design. The patio becomes a place for family members or friends to gather with a custom fire pit that can be a gathering place during the evenings. Additionally, we added raised garden beds made from upcycled wood. These give a rustic feel to the overall appearance of the landscaping and allow the family to garden sustainably. We also included native plantings that would readily thrive and require minimal maintenance; these plants enhance the landscaping while creating a welcoming space for wildlife in the area, giving our clients a natural and thriving ecosystem in their backyard. One challenge we encountered in the workspace was tackling an uneven grade on the lot, and we figured out a way to create proper grading methods to alleviate drainage issues and to ensure proper access. With the help of the landscape architects on our team, we were able to visualize the new grade and ensure that water flowed away from the home to avoid flooding in the future.
