Ferncliff in West Hartford - In Progress 7/18/19 Donnellan & Sons Landscaping is thrilled to be sharing our most recent , the Ferncliff in West Hartford, Connecticut. This remarkable landscape exemplifies our commitment to quality and craftsmanship, bringing out the natural beauty of the property while serving the distinct desires of our client. In this case, our design was over half an acre, featuring an artful combination of native plants, beautiful hardscapes, and sustainable materials. To provide layers of texture and color throughout the seasons, we installed a diverse array of lush ferns, flowering perennials, and ornamental grasses. Locally sourced stone for the walkways and retaining walls served both to hold the aesthetic of the home’s architecture and remain durable through the elements. A primary hurdle we faced during planning was the slope of the yard and the effect of drainage on the slope and to avoid erosion. In a creative way to address this issue, we created a series of terraced beds that not only helped with our clients concerns but also provided some visual interest. We also installed a custom irrigation system to supply all the beneficial materials while conserving on water use and the inconvenience of constantly moving hoses around the yard. Our client also favored the idea of having outdoor lighting through the pathways of the garden for safety but also to enjoy viewing the garden at night after the sun went down. Upon completion, our clients were absolutely delighted with the new look of the property stating the updated landscape increased curb appeal and provided a calming natural outdoor space.
