Belmont Backyard by Elizabeth Gourley Design A testament to the opportunities that skilled landscaping presents, the Belmont Backyard designed by Elizabeth Gourley Design. The brief for this was to create a retreat for outdoors where the design blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings, whilst still providing an area to relax and entertain located in the heart of Belmont. The landscape combines beautiful, native plants with smart, elegant hardscape elements, crowned by a large bluestone patio that is the center of gatherings. In order to make the most of the native site, we added custom built wooden pergolas which provide sheltered outdoor spaces acting as micro-environments for contemplation of the lush site. Diversity is brought to life with the use of low maintenance perennials and ornamental grasses of all types to help ensure vibrance through all seasons while also assisting local wildlife and promoting biodiversity. Because of the architecture involved, one of the challenges that came up was maintaining good drainage and sustainable grading through the sloped backyard. A custom drainage system, hidden beneath the plants, was efficiently implemented by our team to redirect overwatered plants without compromising the beauty of the garden. The end product is an elegant, functional space with beautifully blended indoor-outdoor living. The clients praised the thoughtful design, fine materials, and attention to detail that defines an Elizabeth Gourley Design and were over the moon with the transformation. The Belmont Backyard is both a beloved space to gather with family, have a mellow evening, or somewhere in between. Not only does this bring to life the outdoor living of the homeowners, but it also adds beauty to the Belmont neighborhood, showcasing our commitment to quality and community.
