Callahan Residence The Callahan Residence landscape was designed and built by Michael Pullen Design, LLC. The encompassed a naturalistic landscape blend with an emphasis on outdoor living space. The residence is located within Norman and is situated on a large property with distinct challenges. The site had uneven topography and mature trees on the surrounding landscape that required thoughtful analysis in some of the design decisions. We worked with the Owner to implement a comprehensive landscape design that allowed for a magnificent planting palette of native Oklahoma plants to include colorful flowering perennials, ornamental grass, shrubs, and bold character plants that together create a seasonal tapestry of color. We used quality materials and local stone for pathways and patios to create beautiful outdoor spaces for eating, playing, relaxing, or entertaining. One of the important features in the landscape is the elegantly designed water feature that adds interest, as well as provides soothing sounds. We also used energy-efficient LED lights within the garden that can highlight the plantings at night to help create another magical feeling to the gardens when the sun has set. Throughout the process, we had to consider how to ensure proper drainage into the landscape to protect the integrity of the landscape. Our team designed simple and effective ideas, including the use of permeable pavers and the installation of a rain garden to capture any runoff, which is also a good sustainability feature while adding interest to the property. In the end, the landscape is stunning and a true reflection of the Callahan’s family lifestyle and the curb appeal of their home.
