Mid-Century Modern Landscape Restoration, Frisella Landscape Group The Med-Century Modern Landscape Revival by Frisella Landscape Group is located in the heart of St. Louis and pays beautiful homage to 1950's architectural elegance. Engaged to replace a tired exterior and offer a more cohesive landscape, we created a setting that complements the home's iconic design features beautifully while boosting curb appeal. This features bold native plantings combined with geometry in the hardscapes, both intended to reflect the clean lines and forms found in mid-century modern architecture. Selecting from a range of drought-tolerant perennials, as well as ornamental grasses and sculptural shrubs, we created a rich but low-maintenance garden that ebbs and flows throughout the seasons. Realizing this vision involved some challenges for our team, including drainage issues at the site and what had to be done to seamlessly integrate the landscape features into the existing architecture. The use of permeable pavers within the patio and paths provided a solution to the drainage issues while also staying true to the design's sustainable philosophy. Natural stone chosen for the retaining walls added depth and textural contrast; custom-built wooden planters brought a contemporary feel. The end product is an elegant, peaceful outdoor escape. The sea of trees were planted in a mass planting form that worked in unison with a developmental landscape, and clients loved the finished space, and say that the landscape comes right into their house and nature is part of their life.
