The St. Paul House stands as a testament to the transformative power of thoughtful renovation and modern design. Originally acquired by a young couple captivated by its breathtaking views and southern exposure, the property presented both challenges and opportunities. Though the foundation and structure were sound, the interior layout failed to connect with the surrounding landscape. After weighing the option to raze the existing home, the decision was made to embrace its potential through an extensive renovation and expansion, preserving the embodied energy of the original house while creating a new narrative. The project commenced with the complete removal of all interior finishes, allowing for a blank canvas to reimagine the space. Owner involvement played a crucial role in the execution, exemplifying a commitment to sweat equity that infused the project with personal significance. The design team focused on developing an open-concept first-floor living area that seamlessly integrates with the outdoors, fostering a connection with nature. To maximize the functionality of the home, two generously sized bedrooms were introduced on the second floor, each benefiting from natural light and expansive views. Significant structural changes included the razing of an outdated porch and garage, making way for a modern carport and a welcoming entryway. Enhancements such as a new half-bath on the first floor and a second-floor sitting room and studio provide additional comfort and versatility. The exterior of the St. Paul House boasts a contemporary aesthetic, featuring fiber cement siding that not only enhances durability but also complements the natural surroundings.
