Summary: Natural Drought Tolerant Garden Developed by Rue Group, Inc. under the direction of Kathryn Rue, Landscape Architect, 'Natural Drought Tolerant Garden' is a sustainable design in Southern California. This , set in Orange County, was designed to withstand drought while providing visual beauty to the landscape. The included a variety of native and drought tolerant plants (including California poppies, lavender, and agave ) that are rarely watered or allowed to go dormant in dry conditions. The garden itself was designed to flow by using soft, curving pathways of permeable pavers and decomposed granite to allow for drainage, as well as visual appeal. Due to the site's uneven topography and compacted soil which hindered infiltration rates, several soil amendments were made to improve texture, infiltration rates, and plant health, most of which involved the addition of organic materials. Additionally, a drip irrigation system was devised to minimize water use, while still allowing for adequate hydration for all plants. The result is a remarkable space that conserves water and attracts local wildlife promoting biodiversity in the landscape. The client's vision for a low maintenance, sustainable garden was achieved while providing a relaxing space to enjoy in serenity and peace.
