About This Project

Laguna Lake Estate Located in the midst of Orange County, the Laguna Lake Estate from Rue Group, Inc., of Landscape Architect Kathryn Rue, is an incredible mix of functionality and beauty that fulfills the client’s goals. Covering a large area, this landscaping represented an intentional design that melded the natural beauty of the area with imaginative landscaping. The spotlights a beautiful selection of plants that are drought tolerant and will typically survive in the local climate with a minimum of irrigation. California poppies and lavender were selected to provide some vivid color, while ornamental grasses are used in order to provide texture and movement. The permeable paver nature of the paths is pretty, but more importantly, it assists with the drainage issues the site experienced and helps manage the stormwater runoff. One of the major challenges of the Laguna Lake Estate was the land and its slope. To make the property and garden functional to achieve the client’s goals, creative grading was needed in order to manage the water and accessibility. Terraced garden beds were established, allowing for functional gardening space along with a visually appealing landscape. Further, the use of natural boulders and native stone walls provides structure and fixed connection to the geology of the property. The end result is a beautiful estate that articulates a positive outdoor experience that connects living spaces with the outdoors. The custom areas, decorated with beautiful outdoor furniture, encourage relaxation, and lighting adds a special element at night that helps visualize the landscaping. The client was thrilled with the and how the design blends with sustainability on the lovely Laguna Lake Estate.
