Family Fun by Rue Group, Inc. / Kathryn Rue, Landscape Architect The 'Family Fun' landscape is located in the Orange County area and showcases Rue Group, Inc.'s mission to build exciting outdoor spaces for family connection and use. Serving the community from Anaheim to Yorba Linda, we were excited to take on the to convert an ordinary backyard into a multifunctional recreation space for the Smith family. This is an exciting mix of function and beauty. We began the design stage with an open air entertainment space and carefully crafted pergola to shade summer gatherings. The strong cedar wood structure enhances functionality and durability while being sensitive to the adjacent environment. Next, we specified a fire pit, designed from durable materials, and the sufficient seating surrounded the fire pit for evenings outside. In addition to existing challenges with a sloped yard, we were able to create usable at enhanced environment and available for a well-designed multi-tiered lawn scape. We included locally sourced stone walls to create spaces for different activities. There is a garden for the children to explore, a vegetable garden for family planting, and a cozy seating area for mom and dad. Native plants were also used to increase biodiversity with little requirement for water, but also create seasonal color. At the back of the yard the design was finished with an environmentally friendly lawn made of low-water sod featuring any natural turf grasses to soften the environment, provide the setting for games, and family practices. Attention to detail and being focused on craftsmanship resulted in a design that exceeded clients expectations. The Smith family now enjoys a recreational backyard that serves as a dynamic backdrop to family pictures, experiences and memory showcasing the work of Rue Group, Inc. / Kathryn Rue, Landscape Architect.
