Overview of Norfolk Tug Co. by Wild Works of Whimsy, LLC Located in Norfolk, Virginia, the Norfolk Tug Co. was a chance for Wild Works of Whimsy, LLC to transform an industrial site into a license landscape that captures the maritime nature of the area. The design embraces local plantings and durable materials to encourage sustainability while achieving a beautiful landscape. The main feature of the is a remarkable water element that reflects the tidal movements of the area, and is framed by the selection of local flora from Virginia. Wild Works of Whimsy, LLC utilized flagstone paths and reclaimed wood to help create a pop of rustic charm and durability. By incorporating decorative boulders, this also helps visually enhance the site while acting as some soil stabilization in eroding areas. A highlight of the was dealing with the different elevation levels and drainage issues of the site. The way we mitigated those issues was to create a rain garden, which not only served the drainage function, but encourages biodiversity by becoming a home to our local wildlife. Additionally, we selected perennials and ornamental grasses in such a way that makes the whole landscape truly pop and adds value all year round. This wonderful collaboration awesomely captured the balance between function and beauty, and the Norfolk Tug Co. team was so pleased with the outcome. The landscape now functions seamlessly for employees and invites guests to enjoy the site, capturing the community's coastal history. Wild Works of Whimsy, LLC is proud of creating a that served the client's requests while honoring this unique history and natural beauty of the region.
