True North Landscaping - George Washington High School True North Landscaping completed an exciting landscaping at George Washington High School in Indianapolis to create a beautiful and welcoming space for the students and faculty to enjoy. The focused on improving the outdoor spaces while sticking to sustainable design practices and quality plant materials. We incorporated native plant gardens, decorative pathways, and an outdoor learning space that invites students to learn and enjoy the area. Using durable stone pavers, we built meandering walkways that connect to some of the essential parts of the campus while encouraging foot traffic and accessibility. Native plants were chosen not just for beauty but to provide viability for the native animal life, limit water usage in irrigation, and provide a sustainable design approach. An area of concern we needed to address was the uneven space around the school and around the design implementation area. Our talented landscape architects on the put an immense amount of effort into grading the land and using retaining walls. Retaining walls help to support the form of landscaping, and enhance visual interest. We also included rain gardens on the edges of the design area to deal with excess rain runoff and persist a sustainable landscape design overall. The end product is a lovely, landscaped campus that shares the spirit of the school and its commitment to being a good steward of the environment. The outdoor learning area, which includes seating and shady tree areas, is an amazing place to continue educational activities and climate space to host community functions. The faculty and students at George Washington High School have stated to us how much they appreciated the transformation of their outdoor spaces that will make them proud to be at school, while fostering that connection they long to have with the environment.
