The star of this landscape installation, was a spectacular koi pond that was constructed with natural stone and a waterfall to provide soothing water sounds and ambiance. Investing in high-quality stone from a local supplier means that the pond would be capable of lasting a long time, while ensuring a seamless blend into the natural environment where it is located. There were site challenges associated with the existing slope of the land, which required some adjustments to the initial design of the pond, however through careful design and engineering skills, a multi-tiered pond design was developed with the primary goal of aesthetically pleasing appearance rather than functionality. Lush native plantings were carefully selected surrounding the pond to provide a natural habitat for the koi that would require little to no maintenance. The included native grasses, flowering perennials, and ornamental shrubs to provide color throughout all seasons, but also with the goal of attracting local wildlife and encouraging a balanced ecosystem. This also included a custom wooden deck to enhance the user experience, for relaxing and mindfulness purposes to enjoy the outdoor/pond space and easily feed the koi. The custom wooden deck enhanced the experience even more, as ambient lighting was included on the to illuminate the pond in the nighttime and develop a fairytale atmosphere to enjoy the space during the evening to share with family and friends. The was completed on time and on budget, while the client was thrilled with their new outdoor extension of their home.
