San Diego Residence 7 San Diego Residence 7, also known as the Dunkel , was recently completed by Nick Martin Landscape Architect Inc., demonstrating the artistry and expertise our firm can provide to site-based s. Located in the beautiful area of San Diego, this wonderfully expresses a mix of native plants and contemporary design to enhance the architecture of the home. The basic challenge of the was to turn a steep slope into a functional and beautiful outdoor area. High-quality materials were utilized to support longevity and durability while expressing the landscape. Locally sourced stone was chosen for the retaining walls and paths to pay homage to the natural landscape. Drought resistant plants were selected to promote sustainable design and support the framework for the San Diego climate. Deciding the basic framework of the site, the design has a multi-level garden to step down the slope into distinct outdoor living areas for gatherings and leisure. The central feature of the garden is the large water feature that not provides a sounding centerpiece for the biological systems in the area but also a place for birds to nest and find refuge. There are also custom seating areas with reclaimed wood sourced from the area to pull people into the space and provide seating for a breathtaking view. Through the design process of the , Nick Martin had to problem solve the drainage issues and construction material securing the hillside from erosion. The landscape was designed for beauty but also able to function moving forward for every season. The outcome is a landscape of beauty that has the client delight in their vision with just as much effort put into the work of quality for the greater commitment to design excellence and result. This demonstrates our continuing commitment to deliver landscapes that are both beautiful and sustain, and serve the surrounding community in San Diego.
