Farm-to-Table Country Garden by Merge Studio Merge Studio is excited to introduce the 'Farm-to-Table Country Garden' situated in beautiful Sonoma County. This unique endeavor brings together beauty and functionality to honor the space’s agricultural roots. This garden functions as both a tranquil retreat to enjoy nature as well as a working, productive space that expresses the meaning of sustainable living. The began with an in-depth site analysis to identify sun patterns, soil characteristics, and water drainage to allow the development of a thriving garden space in harmony with its natural habitat. We were presented with the challenge of adapting what was previously a minimally used area to be a vigorous garden space while maintaining the existing native vegetation. We introduced native varieties of California poppies and lavender with heirloom tomatoes and herbs with the goal of supporting a diverse ecosystem of beneficial insects and local wildlife. Next, we partnered with local suppliers to obtain materials and constructed the raised garden beds from reclaimed redwood with the goal of being sustainable with materials that would last. A rustic stone path leads you through the garden to a charming pergola draped with vines which will offer shade for al-fresco dining. The garden also has a rainwater catching system which shows our commitment to sustainable living practices and helps the garden thrive while conserving this precious resource. During the entire phase of the , we believe one of the most important traits developed was open communications with our clients. This qualitative trait helped keep their vision at the center of our process and assisted with the challenges of merging a modern imaginative design to important traditional farming practices. Ultimately our background and experience in landscape and horticulture helped us continually identify solutions to complete the . The end result is an absolutely beautiful country garden that enchants the senses, and invites the family to pick and enjoy fresh produce from their yard. This country garden is rich in green, fragrant herbs, and ample vegetables. It enhances the visual quality of the property and helps create a connection to the land.
