Solana Beach Italian Atrium Courtyard This beautiful courtyard was completed by Torrey Pines Landscape Co., Inc. Torrey Pines Landscape Co., Inc.'s Italian Atrium Courtyard in Solana Beach shows how to mix classical style with contemporary use. This courtyard, located in the scenic coastal community of Solana Beach, was designed as a tranquil getaway for the homeowners to entertain guests and to relax. The design includes outstanding terracotta pavers and stonework specially specified to imitate the gleaming earth tones of the Italian countryside. Soft Mediterranean planting such as lavender, bougainvillea, and olives contribute pleasant aromas and wonderful colors to the space and truly create an ambiance that recalls the charm of the Italian countryside. One design challenge was the slope of the property that required drainage to avoid poor soil conditions while retaining the aesthetics of the space. To combat this challenge, we installed tiered garden beds, with natural stone retaining walls, that used soft curvilinear line to anchor the outdoor living space with the natural landscape of the property. We achieved breath-taking visual interest and a functional landscape. A hand-crafted fountain was designed as the control element for the courtyard, yet it offers a visual focal point. The sound of the mild flow of water falling promotes a calming atmosphere. The seating areas for outdoor enjoyment use an exceptionally durable product but contributes an elegant softness that invites interaction and relaxation. In the end, the homeowners are very pleased with their own Italian atrium outdoor living space!
