St. Louis - Small Backyard Makeover by Poynter Landscape Architecture & Construction The "St. Louis - Small Backyard Makeover" illustrates Poynter Landscape Architecture & Construction's commitment to quality and innovation in transforming a small space into a calming retreat. Located in the center of St. Louis, the original goal for this consisted of taking a small and underutilized yard and turning it into an inviting and usable retreat for relaxation and entertaining. The plan consisted of a mixture of softscape and hardscape elements. A beautiful paver was included in the new design, made from high-quality and permeable materials that not only looked good but also drain and are sustainable. Surrounding the patio were organically designed native plants and ornamental grasses, that are not only hardy and suited to environmental conditions, but are low maintenance and provide life to the yard year-round. Despite the limited space, we were faced with the challenge of providing usable space that had unlimited style. The team conducted creative brainstorming sessions and decided that multi-layered planting beds would attract the eye and provide horizontal texture, while adding vertical elements, such as trellises with climbing vines, could provide exposure alive to the vertical dimension and provide privacy to the homeowners. We included outdoor lighting to complete the outdoor retreat, placing lights that highlighted elegant features in the backyard. The lights created an inviting space full of warm light to spend an evening on the patio or to gather around the fire pit with family and friends. In the end, the clients were thrilled with the amount of detail that went into their , especially given the transformation of a small yard into a beautiful oasis. This renovation highlights not only Poynter Landscape Architecture & Construction's skills in landscaping but also the commitment to making spaces better for clients' lifestyles.
