The looked at an overgrown planting bed with outdated materials that detracted from the aesthetic appeal of the backyard. We removed some invasive species of the old plantings, clearing space for new native plantings as part of the desire of the client for a low-maintenance, environmentally friendly landscape. We selected a range of native plant species, which included colorful perennials, evergreen shrubs, and ornamental grasses, which thrive in the Pacific Northwest climate. The new edging installed and decorative gravel for pathways were of reputable quality materials sourced sustainably; both added functional and aesthetic improvements to the landscape bed. Along with the aesthetic value of the design became some challenges with the uneven grade of the existing landscape bed, which we had to address with waterflow and erosion considerations in the drainage design. Our experienced landscape technicians figured out this challenge while putting in a relatively hidden drainage system that matched the existing landscape with consistent beauty.
