Ferme Ornée ICAA Recipient The 'Ferme Ornée' , constructed by the talented landscape design team at Planters, is an example of our superior craftsmanship and variety of styles in relation to landscape design. Located in the Atlanta area, Ferme Ornée is an award-winning combination of what a classic French garden should be and what could be modern spatial form, and it has been executed so well that it received the ICAA award. Our work started with a comprehensive site assessment in the historic Druid Hills neighborhood site where we were faced with some sloping topography. We crafted a series of tiered garden beds from locally sourced stone to allow for a natural flow of the experience in the landscape, while also addressing a slope and erosion. Additionally, we used primarily native flowers and plants in the palette of the plant list to ensure the reflects this local aesthetics while providing biodiversity in a low-maintenance way. The most significant floral features benefit from popular perennials and ornamentals that were selectively chosen for their seasonal flower color and foliage varieties. We handled the fabrication of a serpentine path of reclaimed brick that urges exploration amongst the lushness of the gardens, leading to a peaceful seating area with handcrafted iron benches and custom water features of a quiet pond and gently flowing fountain. Overall the focus is to create a captivating refuge from our contemporary life, perfect for relaxing or entertaining. Along the way, and in consideration of integrating the existing mature trees and a short timeline, we ran into some bumps in the road. With prudent planning and execution, we were able to work through extending the preservation of these natural features into the greater landscape and overall environment of the site while offering bias toward shade and experience of character. The final scenic experience is beyond breathtaking and not only has an impact on the client's vision but an impact in excess! The landscape has identity and weave to the design of the Ferme Ornée atmosphere, and it stands as our signature ; an illustration of the craftsmanship and creative spatial thinking demonstrated by the Planters team to produce effective outdoor spaces.
