About This Project

Hummingbird and Butterfly Garden DVA Consulting and Design Announcing the completion of DVA Consulting and Design's latest ; the Hummingbird & Butterfly Garden taking up residence in the centre of the East Bay, and serving the communities in and around the 80 corridor from Alameda to Berkeley and Oakland to beyond. This was intended to be a low maintenance area near the house while appealing to local pollinators. The garden includes a carefully chosen selection of native plants California lilacs, milkweed and butterfly bush that thrive in the local climate, as well as feeding hummingbirds and butterflies. We added textures and colors for all seasons to create an attractive landscape throughout the year. Pathways made with permeable pavers provide easy access while also facilitating water drainage, staying true to sustainable practice. The property was situated on a very good hillside which posed some challenges with some creative grading solutions behind and around the house. To solve this, our team skillfully graded the site providing a series of tiered planting beds that added both dimensionality to the design as well as resolving drainage issues. To make the feel really organic we also added some decorative boulders and natural wood features. The end result is an at-arms-length hideaway that feeds any visual appetite and permitted wildlife as well. The homeowners are enjoying their new garden, now bursting with life and an area where family and friends meet. Their testimonials indicate that they enjoy the hummingbirds and butterflies passing through the blossoms with their yard turned into a living, colorful tapestry.
