This large residential landscaping effort took a sprawling estate and created a peaceful retreat outdoors that is both beautiful and functional. In the first consultation, the team recognized that much of the existing landscape did not connect or provide a coherent landscape experience for the estate, which was also very traditional in architecture. The site could benefit from an overall landscape design that enhanced the architecture and offered outdoor living spaces for relaxing and entertaining. The finished landscape has garden beds that have been designed with a combination of perennials, ornamental grasses, and evergreen shrubs to ensure there is color and interest throughout all seasons. The one component of this that stands out is the beautiful, formal entryway into the estate. The entryway consists of custom stone pillars framed by the entrance with an elegantly winding bluestone pathway for visitors that is surrounded by beautiful plantings. Locally quarried limestone was used for a retaining wall that not only provides a natural look and feel to the estate but enhances the feeling of magnitude as you approach. The limestone also keeps with low maintenance characteristics of the landscape, while also being durable for years to come. A beautiful water feature that had a cascading waterfall was also installed for creating a tranquil setting. The water feature becomes an oasis for the homeowners with the soothing sounds of trickling water, and just adds an overall sense of peacefulness. The team designed and stayed within the scope of the , overcoming obstacles like an uneven terrain, while still completing the within the established budget.
