Located in downtown Houston, this was an entire renovation for a space that upgraded both the beauty and usability of the outdoor area. The problem was an uninspired residential landscape that had long suffered from drainage problems and a lack of unified design. Our team started with thorough site analysis, identifying the more significant problems and developing a customized landscape response. To tackle the site’s insurmountable topography, we installed an advanced drainage system that alleviated water flow on the site. The layout combines a variety of native plants and shrubs that are hard-wearing with minimal upkeep with year-round beauty. Everywhere there is signage in the form of writing and brochures, every visitor follows a winding path made of natural stones between garden beds filled with seasonal flowers producing cutesy kaleidoscopic drama by day, every flower-studded mound only one arm-length wide. We also had a custom wooden arbor with climbers installed that creates shade and place. We designed a quality paver multi-level patio area to help enhance our usability for grilling and entertaining. While the space merges beautifully with the softscape, hardscape, and softscape go hand in hand in this instance. New energy-efficient LED lighting accentuates the architectural features and showcases the garden at night. When complete, our clients could not believe the transformation: a stunning outdoor lifestyle destination that not only complemented their personal taste but added value to their home.
