Prairie Mansion by Szafranski Landscape Architecture Located in the heart of Tulsa, the space 'Prairie Mansion' is a testament to the quality and artistry of Szafranski Landscape Architecture. This expansive estate surrounded by the natural beauty of Oklahoma posed a unique design opportunity to balance the architectural grandeur of the Mansion with the existing landscape. We began with a thorough site analysis, considering both the site's topography and existing vegetation. Our team chose native, drought-tolerant perennials and decorative grasses that create a sustainable and low-maintenance landscape that will thrive year-round. Through the use of durable and high quality materials like locally sourced stone for walkways and retaining walls, the aesthetic appeal of the landscape effectively serves nature's purpose. One of the major challenges we faced on this was the site's slope and drainage. Eventually, through an inventive terracing approach, we transformed the landscape into visually beautiful tiers, supporting a variety of plants while allowing proper water run-off for the property. The water feature, with boulders and cascading falls, is a beautiful focal point that attracts local wildlife while promoting a calming atmosphere. What we ultimately created, is a breathtaking landscape that reflects the Prairie Mansion's grandeur. Seasonal flowering beds, pathways, and seating provide places to find rest and contemplation. The clients were ecstatic to see their new outdoor space and valued Szafranski Landscape Architecture's attention to detail for a seamless transition from the indoor spaces to the exterior.
