Cambium Inc.'s Contemporary Lakeside Courtyard The Contemporary Lakeside Courtyard , completed by Cambium Inc., is located on the beautiful shores of Lake Washington. This fabulous courtyard blends modern design with nature to form a relaxing retreat to entertain and relax. The layout is impeccable with its clean lines and open spaces. The courtyard features a large stone patio that is composed of local basalt stone. This area provides tremendous entertaining opportunities for family gatherings, barbecues and outdoor dining. The patio is surrounded by native plants (with low maintenance and ecological features) enhancing the beauty of the lakeside setting, thereby keeping up with the needs of the environment. Colorful perennials and ornamental grasses were chosen to create year round interest while promoting biodiversity. In the development of the , a unique challenge was encountered due to the steep slope of the ground on which the patio was developed. Because it was so steep, a number of retaining walls were needed due to the topography to create a terraced type of planting area. To accommodate this need Cambium Inc. used high quality, ecologically safe materials of the highest quality that resulted in very appealing designs, effectively combining beautiful structure and landscaping. The installation of a custom water feature was an added attraction, which mimicked the gentle rythm of the flow of the nearby lake. This had a double benefit in that it also provided an excellent sound for the environment. The water feature also attracted the local animals thereby making a larger biodiversity environment. Lighting was a consideration that was taken into account and LED lights were installed by Cambium Inc. to enhance the beautiful textures of the stone and the bright colors of the plants, thereby enhancing the night lighting of the patio for night use. As a result of the completion of the , the client was highly impressed and excited the completed that it felt like an incredible change from a simple but nice area to an incredible transformation to an enchanting hide-away and escape from the average housing environment.
