Mid-century Meets Modern by Cambium Inc. Located in Seattle, the 'Mid-century Meets Modern' landscaping by Cambium Inc. combines the enduring aesthetics of mid-century architecture and design with modern landscaping. The is at a residential property serving the neighborhoods in Ballard, Beacon Hill, Bellevue, and more. Our team created a unified outdoor space that utilizes bold geometric patterns, native plantings, and sustainable materials. The central component of the design is a spectacular water feature that includes a linear and sleek pond that reflects the surrounding rich greenery and creates a peaceful retreat. Natural stone pathways help lead visitors through the garden, with seating areas that foster contemplation and engagement with nature. A significant challenge was dealing with a sloping site, requiring design expertise to create drainage systems that supported the landscape in a sustainable way. Our team configured a tiered garden design using locally sourced basalt retaining walls drawn on a visually appealing level of tiers that aided both form and function. Drought-tolerant native plant choices allow for more simplicity and sustainability, an homage to the mid-century design philosophy, while still being appealing as a less-consuming climate-adaptive landscape for Seattle's range of climate. The result is superb, a combination of styles where modern landscaping crisps lines merges into the unique warmth of the mid-century aesthetic. The client was ecstatic, expressing excitement how seamlessly the laid out the indoor and outdoor spaces, and the tranquility out his house.
