Lake Michigan Tropical Sanctuary On the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan, 'Lake Michigan Tropical Sanctuary' by Smalls Landscaping reimagined an average backyard into a tropical paradise. Serving the active communities of Aberdeen, Hobart, Portage, and others, our team thoughtfully constructed this landscape in harmony with its surrounding natural features, providing a tropical getaway for the homeowners. The introduces durable exotic plantons, such as a beautiful hibiscus, a lush fern, and scented plumeria, that can flourish in the region's climate while creating a fully green, colorful view. Custom stone paths of locally harvested bluestone wind among the lush plantings, inviting visitors to walk through a stylishly comfortable landscape of gathering spaces and inviting fire pits for cool evenings. One of the largest challenges we took on was working with a heavily sloped property with drainage issues. Our team crafted a terracing system built by amazing natural stone retaining walls to help with water flow and to create an aesthetically pleasing design. This provided an emotional impact that added beauty and longevity, while also addressing water management and erosion. The ended with a beautiful outdoor living space complete with a tropical-themed gazebo, and a water feature that mimics a natural pond that attracts the wildlife of the area while creating peaceful sounds. The final design was a perfect getaway, which was met with a very satisfied client, as the beauty of these tropical landscapes was married perfectly with the existing aesthetic of Lake Michigan.
