The objective of the was to help a homeowner turn their dark and undeveloped yard, full of large oaks and maples into a lush and well-defined garden that would support the natural site. Our team worked diligently to identify and implement shade-tolerant plants, and carefully consider the design to include variety in plant forms and texture such as various ferns, hostas and astilbes. The use of high-quality materials, including locally sourced river rock and natural stone for the pathways and edging, was also critical in the s success. In addition to planting, we evaluated and mitigated the drainage issues that previously impacted the site by using a more discrete grading system that would channel rainwater in a preferred location away from gardens and other use areas of the site. The final design included pathways, creating outdoor rooms that entice people to move throughout the space, seating areas for gathering underneath giant trees, and colorful flower beds, all enhanced with the high level of finishing that Smalls landscaping is known for. In the end, we created an incredible garden retreat that not only added property value but also provided the homeowners with an inviting space to enjoy year-round. In the end, the clients enjoyed the high level of detail and finishing we put in to final product and recognized 'Chesterton Shade Landscape Garden' is another achievement of the Smalls Landscaping experts.
