Family Playspace Outside InStyle proudly presents the Family Playspace , a perfect example of what happens when outdoor spaces are designed and built to be vibrant and functional. The location was in a neighborhood in Los Angeles for a family who wanted a safe and play-friendly space for their kids while complementing their incredible landscape. The playground was beautifully designed and built with a custom wood play structure, rubber mulch for safety, and a sandbox to allow for hours of creativity. Lush, drought-tolerant plants surround both the play structure and sandbox to accentuate the play features, as well as create diversity, beauty, and sustainability with natural, native species that intertwine with our mission. High-quality, native vegetation like California lilacs and agaves were used to generate colorful and diverse plantings and required no or little maintenance in our local climate. The 's primary challenge was site grading issues that created uneven ground surface conditions. Using retaining walls made of natural stone provided a creative and functional solution to create a safe and level play area. Our skilled team was able to recognize and overcome uneven grading conditions while preserving some rustic charm with the stone walls. The end result is a delightful space for parents and children to enjoy with seating provided in a quaint area of the play area that parents can supervise their children play while appreciating the beauty of their landscape surroundings. The Family Playspace serves not only the family but also acts as a visual enhancement for the neighborhood.
