Contemporary Mid Century Drought Tolerant Front Entry On behalf of Gravel and Green, we are pleased to present the 'Contemporary Mid Century Drought Tolerant Front Entry,' an incredible landscaping that represents contemporary sophistication and of course the critical value of sustainability in the diverse climates of Los Angeles (e.g. Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, etc.). This started as a vision for a welcoming front entry that bridges contemporary aesthetics with mid-century charm. The team carefully selected a variety of drought tolerant plant materials, including succulents, ornamental grasses, and native California species so there was always color and texture to view while conserving water supply. The hardscape design used a beautiful combination of permeable gravel flatwork and streamlined concrete pavers, that provide guidance to the front door, naturally absorbed drainage, and reduced site runoff. In concert with the mid-century style of the house, angular geometric planters with robust green plant materials created synergy between design structure and natural landscape. Although the sun exposure varied and there were differences in the soil, our skilled team implemented creative techniques with soil amendments and strategic placement to create a wonderful growing environment for the plants. In the end, there is a lovely entryway to the residence that fully celebrated the beauty of the drought-tolerant landscape (and home), and so the client was excited their new landscape, as it improved their front entry curb appeal but also created a beautiful and simple low maintenance front entry that is sustainable and aligns with the client's environmentally conscience values.
