About This Project

Emerald Bay MDZA Landscape Architecture and Planning is delighted to present the 'Emerald Bay' , a stunning renovation located on the beautiful coastline of Newport Beach. This extensive landscaping aims to take advantage of the natural environment while improving the outdoor areas' use and visual aesthetic. Emerald Bay features a combination of both native California plants and exquisite selected exotic plants along with materials that allow the property to be a brilliant, colorful, while also sustainable, landscape. The team incorporated sustainable drought-proof materials, including decomposed granite pathways and locally sourced stone for the terrace areas that highlight the coastal experience and support sustainable water use. The strategically located raised garden beds provide a strong habitat for organic vegetables, while the aromatic herbs generate a cloudy fragrance in the air. One of the challenges was dealing with the steep slope of the site. However, the talented staff designed and engineered a series of terraces and retaining walls not only to provide stability during erosion but to provide beautiful layers of interest in the garden. Each of the levels is adorned with custom seating that serves as a perfect place to relax and gather, creating a welcoming feel for family and guests. The end product was a landscape that beautifully blends the balance of use and function while remaining stunning. The clients were extremely pleased with the amount of green, vibrant colors, and the overall transformation of the outdoor property into a usable escape. Emerald Bay is a distinctive MDZA that truly embodies the spirit of MDZA while remaining dedicated to high-quality delivery to drive creativity and satisfaction.
